Anyone who follows my blog or networks with me on social media will not be surprised by my Friday song choice. I’m a reggae conosseur after all, you know.
It is a powerful song that speaks to me on so many levels and is by the legend and, some would say, hugely underrated and under appreciated Jamaican musical legend, Peter Tosh (McIntosh). You can see that I’m not biased then😉. Have a listen and take in the words.👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽
Stepping Razor – Peter Tosh
Extract to reiterate the powerful connotations of this song’s lyrics about simply demanding fair treatment as a human being:
“Bluntly, you don’t go through a fifth of the tribulation that I’ve been through. ‘Cause if you did, only your name would be here to represent you.
If you wanna live. Treat me good. If you wanna live, live. I beg you treat me good. I’m like a walking razor. Don’t you watch my size. I’m dangerous. Said I’m dangerous.
If you are a bully. Treat me good. If you are a bully, a bully. I beg you treat me good. I’m like a stepping razor. Don’t you watch my size. I’m dangerous, dangerous”
Such powerful lyrics!
I may look petite and like I should be malleable and easily led like a sheep. However, a word of warning, please approach me with caution and carry a white flag because I am a lion in waiting. It comes from my Maroon heritage (read about the Maroons here to understand (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamaican_Maroons)
Come in peace and we’ll get on just fine. Irie!!!🇯🇲✌️❤️💚💛
