Songs of Freedom! Celebrating Black History Month!

“🎼Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds…🎶 ” These are the hauntingly prophetic lyrics of the legendary Bob Marley as he sang Redemption Song. This song was among many more that were staples on constant rotation on the radiowaves in Jamaica when I was growing up. It wasn’t until adulthood that I fully appreciated the deep meaning of the lyrics for myself, my people and indeed all people.
I have been on a ‘virtual historical expedition’ for a number of weeks as part of my contribution towards the celebration of Black History Month 2015 in the UK. As we come towards the end of another Black History Month, I invite you to listen to it with me.

We are a great people with unrivalled resilience. As Marcus Garvey stated “Up you mighty race! You can accomplish what you will.”
