“Jamaica Poetry Festival 2020 – Virtual 10th Anniversary Staging
Jamaica’s Feast of Poetree, Jamaica Poetry Festival, is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary on Sunday, August 9th, 2020. It shall be streamed Live from Television Jamaica (TVJ) studio on Jamaica News Network (JNN), 1SpotMedia, JNN’s YouTube Channel and Jamaica Poetry Festival’s FB Page. The show runs from from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Jamaica Poetry Festival (JPF) had it’s inaugural staging in 2011 as a lead-up to Jamaica’s 50th Year of Independence in partnership with JCDC and has since being held annually at the Louise Bennett Garden Theatre in Kingston, Jamaica.
Olive Senior – Lifetime Achievement Awardee
Due to the COVID – 19 pandemic, our 10th anniversary shall transformed into a virtual staging, pay Tribute to Miss Lou in her Centenary Year (1919-2020) while honouring the iconic, literary giant, Olive Senior, with the Jamaica Poetry Festival 2020 – Lifetime Achievement Award.
10 Countries Celebrating The 10th Anniversary of Jamaica Poetry Festival (2020)
JPF 2020 is presenting Poets and Performers from 10 countries as a special feature of it’s 10th anniversary.
The eclectic mix of performers are from a wide range of countries from across the globe. These are Dr Neal Hall (USA), Dwayne Morgan (Canada), Aldith Hunkar (Netherlands), Choi Young-Mi (South Korea), Shayma Ahmadi (Iran), Nichole McIntosh (England/UK), Brother Resistance (Trinidad), Winston Farrell (Barbados), Anthony Molosi (Botswana) and of course, Jamaica. The Jamaicans are Prof Carolyn Cooper, Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze, Ka’Bu Ma’at Kheru, Yasus Afari and special guest artiste, Daddy U Roy, the Godfather.
This Virtual staging of Jamaica Poetry Festival 2020 is an amazing, exciting and historic opportunity for Jamaica, Jamaican Poetry and the international Poetree Community. The international community is already buzzing with the colourful and vibrant potency of Jamaican Poetry.
